Women’s Soccer: Westminster Wins, 5-1, at La Roche

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team won, 5-1, at La Roche College in a non-conference game on Sunday.
 
The Redhawks (4-4-0) scored their only goal off the foot of Alex Shaver at the 18th minute.
 
The Titans (4-3-2) tied the game, 1-1, after junior Melissa Thomas (Hubbard, OH / Hubbard) scored, her first goal on the season, at the 31st minute. The score remained the same at halftime.
 
Westminster out-scored La Roche, 4-0, in the second half to secure the win.
 
Sophomore Devin Furness (Fayetteville, PA / Chambersburg) tallied the go-ahead goal, her first of the season, at the 57th minute. First-year Kaelyn Puhalla (Youngstown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) earned the assist.
 
Puhalla extended Westminster's lead to 3-1 with a score of her own at the 69:07 mark, her team-leading fourth on the season. Sophomore Emily Irvine (Cheswick, PA / Deer Lakes) had the assist.
 
First-year Gabrielle Diamond (Moon Township, PA / Moon) added a score at the 72nd minute, the first of her collegiate career, after first-year Kiana Kawarizadeh (New Albany, OH / New Albany) found her with a pass. Senior Gabriella Tissue (Coraopolis, PA / West Allegheny) scored the final Titan goal, the first of her collegiate career, at the 87th minute. First-year Maura Belding (Columbiana, OH / Crestview) earned the assist.
 
For the game, Westminster out-shot La Roche 30-10, including a 21-7 shots-on-goal advantage.
 
Titan junior goalkeeper Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) earned five saves in 87:56 minutes of work.
 
Westminster will wrap up its non-conference schedule with a home match versus Allegheny College on Tuesday, September 27 with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
