NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College football team won, 28-7, over Waynesburg University at home on Saturday.
Titan sophomore
Bill Madeja (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) scored the first two touchdowns, both with runs inside the five-yard line. The first Madeja touchdown was from three yards out, capping off a 6-play 59-yard drive. Following an extra point by senior
Justin Dahl (Cochranton, PA / Maplewood), Westminster led 7-0 with 11:11 remaining in the first quarter. The second Madeja score came with 9:51 remaining in the second quarter, from two yards out. The touchdown capped off a 16-play 61-yard drive that took 8:23 off the clock. After another Dahl extra point, the Titans led 14-0.
Junior
Paul Columbo (Boca Raton, FL / West Boca Raton Community) extended the Titans' lead after a 78-yard touchdown run in the second. Dahl's extra point brought the score to 21-0 with 3:09 remaining in the first half.
In the fourth quarter, Columbo found
Jaevon Hardy (Waldorf, MD / North Point) for a 54-yard touchdown pass and catch. The score marked Hardy's first of his collegiate career. Westminster led 28-0 after a Dahl extra point with 12:45 on the clock.
Waynesburg (0-2) spoiled the shutout with a 1-yard touchdown run by Jake Dougherty with 6:13 remaining. The Yellow Jackets started the drive from the Titans' 25-yard line because of a Westminster turnover.
For the game, Westminster out-gained Waynesburg 392-209, including a 231-106 advantage on the ground. Columbo finished 14 of 23 with a game-high 161 yards and a score. Columbo also had a game-high 127 yards rushing on 10 carries.
Senior
Mac Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Northgate) led the Titan defense with 10 tackles. Senior
Gator Phillips (Deland, FL / Deland) and junior
CJ Armstrong (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista) registered six and five tackles, respectively. Armstrong and junior
Todd Jeter (Monroeville, PA / Gateway) each forced a fumble.
Westminster (2-0) has its bye week next week and will next play at Bethany College in its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Saturday, September 24 at 6 p.m.
