Softball: Titans’ Win Streak Comes to End at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky.  – The Westminster College softball team had its 19-game winning streak end after it was swept in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at Thomas More College on Friday.

Westminster was unable to hold onto a 4-0 lead and lost 5-4 in eight innings in the first game and lost 4-1 in the second game.

In game one, Westminster (23-13, 16-2 PAC) led 1-0 in the first inning after junior Emily Lindsey (Freeport, PA / Freeport) scored. Sophomore Jazmyn Rohrer (Purcellville, VA / Woodgrove) extended Westminster's lead to 3-0, following a two-run RBI in the third. Sophomore Gabby Butcher (Youngstown, OH / Austintown-Fitch) added a run in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly. Thomas More (30-8, 15-3 PAC) cut the Titans' lead to 4-3 with three runs in the sixth and forced the extra inning with a run in the seventh. Westminster had an opportunity to take the lead in the top of the eighth inning with the bases loaded, but was unable to bring anyone home. The Saints scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth after a Titan throwing error. Rohrer (12-7) pitched a complete game, while giving up five runs (one earned) on nine hits. She struck out six batters and walked five.

In the second game, Westminster had a 1-0 lead after four innings of play. The Saints, however, took a 2-1 lead with two runs in the fifth and added insurance with two additional runs in the sixth. First-year Kailey Liverman (Purcellville, VA / Loudoun Valley) and sophomore Hannah Ritter (Front Royal, VA / Skyline) led the Titan offense with two hits each. Senior pitcher Amber Forrest (Clear Spring, MD / Clear Spring) (11-6) threw five innings, while giving up two runs on nine hits. Forrest struck out one and walked none.

Westminster will finish its regular season at Pitt Greensburg in a doubleheader on Tuesday, May 3. Game one is set for 3:30 p.m.
