Men’s Lacrosse: Titans Unable to Hold off La Roche Comeback

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Despite leading 9-5 at halftime, the Westminster College men's lacrosse team lost 13-12 at La Roche College in a non-conference game on Friday.
 
The Redhawks netted the game-winning goal with 2:07 remaining in the fourth quarter.
 
After a 3-3 tie at the end of the first quarter, Westminster (2-7) took a commanding 9-5 halftime lead after out-scoring La Roche 6-2 in the second.
 
By intermission, sophomore Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) and freshman Ryan Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) each had a game-high three goals.
 
La Roche (3-11) cut the Titans' lead to 11-10 after out-scoring Westminster 5-2 in the third.
 
In the fourth quarter, the Redhawks tied the game, 11-11, after a goal at the 7:35 mark. Westminster regained the lead, 12-11, after sophomore Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) earned a goal, his third of the game. La Roche scored the tying goal with 3:40 on the clock and the game-winner less than two minutes later.
 
Zack Shorts, Walker, and Ryan Shorts finished the game with three goals apiece. Freshman Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) scored twice, while classmate Alex Kennedy (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) added a goal. Ryan Shorts also had a team-high three assists. Freshman Luke Murawski (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area) tallied a game- and season-high 12 groundballs.
 
La Roche's Ajay Hamer had a team-high four goals, while Nick Antenucci led the Redhawks with six groundballs.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) (2-7) earned 14 saves in a complete-game effort.
 
Westminster will play at Franciscan University on Wednesday, April 27 in its regular season finale, with a 4 p.m. start time.
