NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's lacrosse team won, 8-5, over Medaille College in its first game in school history at home under the lights of Harold Burry Stadium Tuesday night.
Titan sophomore
Zack Shorts (Westlake Village, CA / Oak Park) led all scorers with three goals. Westminster (1-0) never trailed in the game.
Freshman
Max Wike (Highland, MD / Resrvoir) scored the first goal with 4:38 remaining in the first quarter. Medaille (0-1) tied the game, 1-1, with a score at the 3:05 mark.
Shorts put Westminster in front, 2-1, with a goal at the 13:21 mark in the second quarter. The Mavericks tied it once again with a goal with 5:55 left in the half. Shorts scored his second-straight goal with 1:47 remaining, giving the Titans a 3-2 lead.
In the second half, Medaille tied the game, 3-3, with a goal at the 9:05 mark in the third quarter. The Titans, however, pulled away with three-straight goals in the third. Freshman
Luke Murawski (Moon Township, PA / Moon Area), Shorts, and sophomore
Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) recorded the scores. Westminster led 6-3 after three quarters of play.
The Mavericks scored two more goals in the fourth (9:05 and 1:13), while the Titans scored two more of the their own, courtesy of Murawski (7:13) and freshman
Reid Lutz (Pittsburgh, PA / West Allegheny).
Wike and Walker each had a game-high two assists.
Titan freshman goalkeeper
Carter Hall (Zeeland, MI / Zeeland West) earned the complete-match win, while earning 11 saves.
Westminster will next host Defiance College on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m. in its Ohio River Lacrosse Conference opener.
