GREENVILLE, Pa. – Despite leading by 10 points in the second half, the Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 78-66, to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Thiel College on the road Saturday afternoon.
Thiel (12-11, 10-6 PAC) led 9-0 with 15:47 remaining in the first half. Westminster (6-17, 6-10 PAC) took its first lead when sophomore
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) found senior
Paul Carswell (Painesville, OH / Notre Dame Cathedral Latin) for a three-pointer, putting the Titans in front 21-19 with 5:34 on the clock. Westminster went up by as much as seven points (30-23) and led 30-28 at intermission.
The Titans extended their lead to 45-35 in the second, their largest of the game, when Carswell connected on another three with 15:59 on the clock. Thiel orchestrated an 18-6 run to take its first lead (53-51) since the 6:11 mark of the first half. The Tomcats remained ahead and outscored the Titans 25-15 for the remainder of the contest.
Carswell led the Titans with a season-high 18 points and had team-bests in rebounds (7) and blocks (3). Sophomore
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) added 11 points, while junior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) and senior
Charlie Wallander (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) tallied seven points each. Sophomore
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) and Wallander registered six and five rebounds, respectively. Domenick also had a game-high six assists, while Pilarski pocketed a team-high two steals.
For the game, Thiel out-rebounded Westminster 62-38, including a 29-15 offensive rebound advantage.
Westminster is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 17, when it travels to Washington & Jefferson College with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
