NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's soccer team ended its 2016 season with a 1-1 double overtime tie against Waynesburg University on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
Titan sophomore
Carli Sebest (Poland, OH / Poland) scored with less than a minute remaining in the second half to force overtime. Senior
Sammy Creese (Mount Airy, MD / Glenelg) earned the assist. The marked Sebest's second on the year.
Waynesburg (5-11-1, 2-6-0 PAC) scored its goal in the 25
th minute of the first half, off the foot of Melanie Burchfield from a corner kick.
Westminster out-shot Waynesburg 23-14 (6-2 in overtime), including 14-9 on-goal. The Titans also had a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks (3-0 in overtime).
First-year goalkeeper
Ashley Smialek (Chicago, IL / Marist) earned five saves in 90 minutes of work. Junior
Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) came in at overtime and added two saves.
Westminster recognized seniors Creese,
Jacqui Holiday (Odenton, MD / Archbishop Spalding), and
Gabriella Tissue (Coraopolis, PA / West Allegheny) before the game.
Westminster finished the season 9-7-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the PAC.
