NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College men's soccer team won, 3-1, at home over Thiel College in both teams' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener on Saturday.
Westminster improved to 4-4-2 overall and 1-0-0 in the PAC, while Thiel fell to 3-7-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league play.
Titan freshman
Nick Cimini (Mars, PA / Mars Area) scored the first goal, the first of his collegiate career, at the 18:13 mark, to put Westminster in front, 1-0. Sophomore
Shane Fallen (Blue Bell, PA / Wissahickon) earned the assist. The Titans led by the same score at halftime.
Junior
Kornel Foremski (Shaker Heights, OH / Shaker Heights) scored in the 63
rd minute of the second half, his first of the season, giving the Titans a 2-0 lead. Junior
Fedja Smajic (Pittsburgh, PA / Baldwin) had the assist. Senior
Jeremy Wiening (Trophy Club, TX / Byron Nelson) extended Westminster's lead to 3-0 after Smajic found him in the 68
th minute for a score.
Thiel's Eric Mitchell spoiled the shutout with a goal at 88
th minute.
For the game, Westminster out-shot Thiel 25-10, including 12-6 on goal. The Titans also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Titan sophomore goalkeeper
AJ Bove (New Stanton, PA / Hempfield Area) earned four saves in 81:15 minutes.
Westminster will next play at Geneva College on Wednesday, October 5 at 7:30 p.m.
