Women’s Basketball: Fromknecht Leads Titans to an 83-80 Upset Over Waynesburg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Sophomore Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell) led all scorers with a career-high 26 points and guided the Westminster College women's basketball team to an 83-80 upset over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) foe Waynesburg University on Wednesday night.
 
Fromknecht's point total was the highest for any Titan this season. Westminster's 83 points was also a season high.
 
Waynesburg (9-9, 7-4 PAC) was in front for the majority of the first quarter and led by as much 10 when Kassidy O'Keefe made a three-pointer extending the Yellow Jackets' lead to 26-16 with 2:37 on the clock. Westminster (2-16, 2-9 PAC) responded with an 11-0 run and took a 27-26 lead after sophomore Paige Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Shaler) made a three-pointer with 16 seconds remaining. The Yellow Jackets regained the lead on their next possession and led 28-27 at the end of the first.
 
The Titans started the second quarter with a 14-7 run and led 41-35 after sophomore Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) made a layup with 4:15 remaining in the half. Waynesburg battled back and took a 43-41 lead with a three-pointer by Katie Gehlmann with 1:49 left and led by the same at halftime.
 
The first half of the third quarter went back-and-forth. The Titans however regained the lead and outscored Waynesburg 15-6 in the final five minutes and led 66-58 at the end of the third.
 
Waynesburg kept battling in the fourth quarter and cut Westminster's lead to two points twice, with the latest coming with five seconds left, however the Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome the deficit.
 
Along with Fromknecht, three additional Titans scored in double-digits, including Cook (16), sophomore Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic) (12), and Quinn (10). Fromknecht and sophomore Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Conchranton) added five rebounds each. Quinn also had a team-high three steals.
 
Westminster will next play at nationally-ranked Thomas More College in Crestview Hills, Ky. on Saturday with a start time of 1 p.m.
