NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster College women's basketball team's comeback came up short as the Titans lost, 58-56, to Penn Stat Beaver in a non-conference game at home Monday night.
The Titans were down by as much as 15 points and had an opportunity for the game-winning shot, but were unable to connect on a three-pointer as time expired.
Penn State took an 11-2 lead in the first quarter after a 7-0 run with 4:37 on the clock. The Lions held a 16-10 advantage at the end of the first. Down 23-15 with 8:48 remaining in the first half, the Titans went on a 5-0 run (all points coming from sophomore
Danielle Dindak (West Homestead, PA / Serra Catholic) and cut Penn State's lead to 23-20 with six minutes left. The Lions responded with a 12-0 run and took their largest lead of the game (35-20) with 1:48 on the clock and led 35-23 at halftime.
Penn State led 43-29 with 5:24 remaining in the third quarter, however, the Titans went on an 11-0 run to get within three points (43-40) with 2:25 on the clock. Kristine Fromknecht (Erie, PA / McDowell), and had a chance for the game-winning shot, but was unable to make a three-pointer at the buzzer.
Dindak led Westminster's offense with 14 points, including a game-high three three-pointers. Sophomore
Kylie Cook (Pittsburgh, PA / Mount Lebanon) scored 12 points, while Fromknecht had 10. Quinn and junior
Rachel Durbin (Lowellville, OH / Lowellville) added eight and six points, respectively. Sophomore
Kendell Dickson (Cochranton, PA / Conchranton) tied a game-high with a career-high nine rebounds. Cook and Fromknecht had seven rebounds each. Quinn and Durbin tied for a team-high with four assists apiece.
Westminster will next travel to Bethany College on Wednesday with a start time of 6 p.m.
