NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team (5-0) won its fifth-straight match after an 8-1 win against the visiting University of Pitt-Greensburg Bobcats Thursday night.
Titan senior
Rachel Simko (New Castle, PA / Laurel) highlighted the night with a hat trick. Simko scored her first at the 2:53 mark after she received a pass from classmate
Gretchen Schwarz (Hudson, OH / Hudson). She notched her second goal in the 25th minute after she received a cross in the box from classmate
Raechel Pusateri (New Wilmington, PA / Wilmington). Schwarz found Simko again at the 25:13 mark with a through ball for Simko's third goal.
Schwarz netted her first goal of the season at the 23rd minute after Pusateri earned her first of two assists of the game. Pusateri scored a goal of her own at the 38:59 mark; first-year
Emily Irvine (Cheswick, PA / Deer Lakes) had the assist with a lead pass.
Pitt-Greensburg (1-4) spoiled the shutout with a goal right before halftime in the 44th minute.
Two Titans registered their first collegiate goals as
Angela Bowell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline) scored at the 44:21 mark and
Devin Furness (Fayetteville, PA / Chambersburg) scored in the 69th minute. Junior
Sammy Creese (Mount Airy, MD / Glenelg) had the assist for Bowell's goal.
Westminster senior Mere Mishler (Johnstown, PA / Bishop McCort) also scored at the 47:27 mark, her second goal of the season.
Titan sophomore goalkeeper
Laura Page (Bethel Park, PA / Bethel Park) locked her fifth win of the season after going 56:21. She had three saves and gave up one goal.
Westminster will next host Juniata College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
