NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College football team won its sixth-straight game after a 32-0 win over Geneva College on Senior Day Saturday afternoon.
Westminster improved to 8-2 overall and 7-1 in the PAC, tying the most wins in 15 years since the Titans went 8-2 in 2000. The shutout was the first under the regime of second-year Head Coach
Scott Benzel. Geneva dropped to 2-8 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
Sophomore
Dominique McKinley (Greensburg, PA / Greensburg-Salem) ran for a game-high 115 yards off 25 carries, his sixth 100-yard game this year.
For the game, Westminster out-gained Geneva 375 yards (227 rushing/148 passing) to 221 yards (7 rushing/214 passing). The Titans held an 18-15 first down-advantage.
In the second quarter, Titan sophomore
Max Ungerman (Pittsburgh, PA / North Hills) set Westminster up for its first score after a blocked punt and return to Geneva's one-yard line. On the next play, senior Benny Walter (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) ran it in for the score. After an extra point by junior
Justin Dahl (Cochranton, PA / Maplewood), Westminster led 7-0 with 8:39 remaining in the half.
On the ensuing kickoff, Westminster recovered an on-side kick at Geneva's 36 yard-line. The Titans used four runs, three from McKinley, to add to their lead. McKinley mustered 31 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown run, to put Westminster in front 13-0.
McKinley extended Westminster's lead to 19-0 on the Titans' next possession after sophomore
Shamon Walker (Pittsburgh, PA / Milton Hershey) found him through the air for a 46-yard touchdown.
On Westminster's second possession of the third quarter, sophomore
Jametrius Bentley (Lake Worth, FL / Park Vista Community) capped off a 7-play 81-yard drive with a 40-yard touchdown run. Dahl's point-after-touchdown brought the Titans' lead to 26-0.
Dahl made the score 32-0 after he added a pair of field goals (22 and 26 yards, respectively).
Titan junior
Mac Quinn (Pittsburgh, PA / Northgate) led the defense with a game-high 12 tackles, his sixth time this year to have double-digit tackles. Freshman
Miguel Luis (Hollywood, FL / Mater Academy) and senior
Darrin Donikowski (Erie, PA / Mercyhurst Prep) added six tackles each. Quinn and junior
Gator Phillips (Deland, FL / Deland) each had an interception. It marked the first pick for Quinn and third for Phillips this season.
The Titans will find out on Monday, Nov. 16 if they are selected to compete in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Football Bowl Championships.
