MARIETTA, Ohio - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost, 100-82, in its 2015-16 season opener at the nationally ranked Marietta College in a non-conference game Friday night.
Four Titans scored in double-digits, led by sophomore
Jarret Vrabel (Canfield, OH / Canfield) who scored 14. Freshman
Austin Armwood (Westerville, OH / Westerville North) registered 12 points in his college debut, including a team-high four three-pointers. Armwood tied a game-high with four assists, followed by sophomore
Brandon Domenick (New Castle, PA / New Castle) with three. Junior
Matt Getsy (Mars, PA / Mars) and
Deontay Scott (Youngstown, OH / East) tallied 11 and 10 points, respectively. Scott led Westminster on the glass with eight rebounds, followed by Vrabel with seven. Junior
Jason Pilarski (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood) added seven points, five rebounds, and a team-high two steals.
For the game, Westminster (0-1) shot 48.4% (30-62), while Marietta (1-0) shot 45.3% (34-75). Both teams had 40 rebounds.
Marietta took its first double-digit lead (39-27) with 5:42 to play in the first half. The Pioneers led 54-39 at halftime.
Westminster will next travel to Division I Saint Francis on Tuesday with a 7 p.m. start time.
