MARIETTA, Ohio - The Westminster College men's soccer team lost to Wooster, 3-2, in overtime Sunday in the second day of the Marietta Soccer Classic. The Titans, now 1-1-1, finish the classic with a 0-1-1 record. Wooster is now 3-0.
Yousef Aliakbar scored all three goals for Wooster including the first goal in the ninth minute, a go-ahead goal in the 67th minute, and the game-winner in the 99th minute of overtime on an assist from Brandon Patera. Aliakbar beat Westminster senior goalkeeper Lance Leathers (Pleasant Gap, Pa./Bellefonte) from 10 yards out for the game-winner.
Leathers made five saves in his first start of the season. Wooster goalkeeper Taylor Takacs earned the win by making three saves.
Freshman forward David Osae (Bedford, Texas/Lawrence D. Bell) tied the game for Westminster in the 20th minute by scoring the second goal of his career on an assist from senior midfielder Jarred Smeltzer (Wilmerding, Pa./East Allegheny).
Osae returned the favor and assisted on Smeltzer's game-tying goal in the 71st minute that sent the game to overtime. Smeltzer's goal was his fourth of the season.
Osae, senior goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley), and junior defender Jason Mezyk (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) all represented Westminster on the Marietta Soccer Classic all-tournament team.
Westminster travels to Mount Union Wednesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
