MARIETTA, Ohio - The Westminster College men's soccer team tied host Marietta, 1-1, Saturday night after the two teams played to a double-overtime draw in the first day of the Marietta Soccer Classic. The Titans are now 1-0-1 on the season and the Pioneers open the season with a 0-0-1 record.
Junior midfielder James Gross (McDonald, Pa./McGuffey) tied the game for Westminster on an unassisted goal when he kicked a loose ball out of the air from four yards out in the 42nd minute. Neither team scored in the second half.
Brandon Siringer scored off a throw-in from Ryan Wong for Marietta's goal that opened the scoring in the 37th minute.
Westminster senior goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) went the full 110 minutes while making five saves. Chris Stollar made 11 saves for the Pioneers. Westminster outshot the Pioneers 22-15.
Westminster remains in Marietta to play Wooster Sunday at 11 a.m.
