Men's Soccer: Titans Fall 4-1 at Carnegie Mellon

PITTSBURGH - The Westminster College men's soccer team 4-1 lost at Carnegie Mellon Tuesday in a non-conference night game. The Titans fall to 2-2 on the season while the Tartans improve to 3-1.

Senior midfielder Jarred Smeltzer (Wilmerding, Pa./East Allegheny) scored the lone goal for the Titans in the fourth minute on an assist from sophomore forward Coty Hainsey (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge). The goal was Smeltzer's second of the season, tying him for the team lead.

Carnegie Mellon scored just 42 seconds into the match when Keith Haselhoff scored off a corner kick from Pat Lutz. The game-winner came near the 10-minute mark when John Crawshaw scored off a cross from Ricky Griffin. CMU netted insurance goals by Jon Simon in the 24th minute and Ryan Browne in the 59th minute of the second half.

The Tartans held a 16-4 shot advantage including 12-4 in the first half.

Westminster returns to action Saturday when it visits Division II Pitt-Johnstown for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
