WASHINGTON, Pa. - In a battle between two teams tied for third place in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC), the Westminster College men's soccer team cruised to a 3-0 win at Washington & Jefferson on Saturday.
The Titans improve to 3-1 in the PAC and 8-9 overall, while the Presidents fall to 2-2 in the league and 9-6-1 overall.
Senior Ian Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) scored in the fifth minute to give Westminster a 1-0 lead, before junior Wade Grubbs (Chicora, Pa./Butler) cushioned the Titans' lead to 2-0 in the 28th minute.
Hill now leads the team with eight goals this season. Grubbs scores his second after coming back from an injury.
Senior Jarred Smeltzer (Wilmerding, Pa./East Allegheny) extended Westminster's lead to 3-0 with a 63rd-minute goal in the second half for his fifth tally of the season.
Junior goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) made eight saves in 82 minutes in net. W&J actually held a 19-14 shot advantage.
The Titans return to action at home vs. Bethany on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
