BEREA, Ohio - The Westminster College men's soccer team held a one-goal lead at halftime against seventh-ranked and unbeaten Baldwin-Wallace on the road Saturday. The Titans could not sustain the upset as Baldwin-Wallace prevailed, 3-2, for the non-conference win.
Baldwin-Wallace (9-0) scored the game-winner in the 85th minute when Cory Kovach chipped in a goal from the right side on an assist from Jim Synk, beating Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley). Codita made seven goals as the teams tied, 15-15, in total shots.
Westminster (6-4) led 2-1 at halftime after senior midfielder Garrett Horvath (Southlake, Texas/Southlake Carroll) scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 24th minute on a shot from 25 yards out.
After Baldwin-Wallace tied the game three minutes later on a goal by Tyler Leister, Westminster junior forward Ian Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) netted his fourth goal of the year in the 42nd minute on a direct free kick from 20 yards out.
Westminster opens conference play at Thomas More on Saturday, Oct. 4.
