Men's Soccer: Westminster Prevails in Double OT at Saint Vincent

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College men's soccer team outlasted Saint Vincent, 4-3, in double overtime on the road Wednesday.

Junior midfielder Jarred Smeltzer (Wilmerding, Pa./East Allegheny) buried the game-winning goal in the 104th minute of double overtime on an assist from junior forward Ian Hill (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic).

Hill amassed four points for the game with a goal and two assists. Hill assisted on a game-tying goal by junior forward Brice Lott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) in the 32nd minute. After the Titans and Bearcats traded goals again, Hill netted a go-ahead goal in the 47th minute before Saint Vincent's Dave Lauteri scored in the 82nd minute to send the game to overtime.

The other Westminster goal-scorer was sophomore midfielder Aaron Zavora (Westmoreland City, Pa./Norwin) potting a goal in the 36th minute which put the Titans up 2-1.

The Titans held a 31-17 shot advantage as Westminster sophomore goalkeeper Mike Codita (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) gloved five saves.

Westminster improves to 8-4 on the season while the Bearcats drop to 4-9. The Titans return to action Saturday when they host Geneva at 7 p.m.
