NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster College advanced to the championship match of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) men's soccer tournament Tuesday with a 3-0 semifinal win over visiting Grove City.Â
The second-seeded Titans (11-6-2) will now face top-seeded Bethany (14-2-3) in the finals Saturday at 1 p.m. in Bethany, W.Va.Â
Westminster took a 1-0 lead into halftime of its semifinal match against Grove City thanks to freshman Matt Tomnay (Tarentum, Pa./Deer Lakes) scoring a goal in the 34th minute on the first of two assists by junior forward Andrew Saporito (Irwin, Pa./Penn-Trafford).Â
Saporito later fed a pass to senior forward Blake Ordell (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) for a 49th-minute goal, before Ordell assisted on an 88th-minute goal by freshman Brice Lott (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum). The goals were Ordell's and Lott's sixth of the season.Â
Junior goalkeeper Christopher Passione (Valencia, Pa./Mars) registered his second shutout of the season for the Titans by making 12 saves.Â
The Titans are seeking their first PAC title since 2002.Â
