Westminster College Athletics

For two seasons in the early 1970s, the most valuable player on the Westminster College men's basketball team was Gary Brown. A 6-foot, 175-pound guard from Mount Lebanon High School, Brown was a two-time all-conference player including a first-team selection in 1971 in addition to his two team MVP honors. He also earned an honorable mention for the All-America team.

Brown scored over 650 points during his career. He was the team's leading scorer as a junior with 13.0 points per game and as a senior he scored in double figures 15 times, including a career-high 41 points in a 91-82 win over Waynesburg which is currently tied for fifth best all-time at Westminster for points in a game.

Brown, a 1971 graduate of Westminster with a degree in business, played for four different coaches in four years. Buzz Ridl's final year with Westminster was Brown's freshman year when the 22-8 Titans played in the NAIA national tournament. As a sophomore he was coached by Ron Galbreath, then as a junior he played for Harold Davis and as a senior Ray Ondako was the head coach. Westminster teams had a combined 69-34 record during those years.

A Pittsburgh resident, Brown is currently the CEO of Mount West Investments and he also serves on the Board of Trustees at Westminster College.
